Called High School Musical: On Stage, the musical follows two high school students, Troy Bolton (played by Henry Petterson) and Gabriella Montez (Indiana Nunn), who meet at a party on New Year's Eve. They share a connection, forged through singing.
On the first day back at school after the Christmas break they discover that Gabriella has been transferred to the same school as Troy and their love story evolves.
The production follows the age old story of jock meets nerd, jock falls for nerd as Troy and Gabriella audition together for their high school production of Juliet and Romeo.
Comic relief is provided by twins Sharpay (Molly Sorensen) and Ryan (Sam Harrop).
"I was constantly begged by students to do High School Musical as the musical. I watched the movie and realised it was pretty much a G-rated Grease and so, so fun. Audiences can expect an enjoyable, exuberant, high-energy performance," drama teacher and director Emily Johnston said.
The play features more than 30 young performers.
Performances will be held in the Chris Walkling Theatre at St Philip's Christian College on June 12 at 7pm, June 14 at 7pm and June 15 at 1pm and 7pm.
Tickets cost $20 for adults, $15 for students or concession and $12 for children 12yrs and under.
