Matthews' book, launched by NSW Police Minister Troy Grant in December, is a fictionalised true story about domestic abuse.
It is a thought-provoking novel about a victim of emotional abuse, how attitudes, values and culture contribute to abuse, and the path to change.
"Many people assume that victims of domestic violence and abuse are identified by their black eyes or broken arms. The Skinny Girl allows readers to walk a mile in [main character] Daisy's shoes," Matthews said.
"The Skinny Girl was written over six years and involved many interviews with female victims of domestic abuse.
"Through Daisy's life, readers see that there can be hope while being exposed to the powerful, raw truth about what is a hidden subject.
"The story is not just about abuse; it is as much to do with a woman's emotional strength, courage and empowerment."
Matthews will visit Raymond Terrace Library 11am-12.30pm and Tomaree Library 3pm-4.30pm on Thursday, June 27.
The Skinny Girl will be available to buy at the libraries on the day. All proceeds will be donated to the Homicide Victims Support Group and other domestic violence charities.
