An urban treasure hunt similar in style to the popular Amazing Race television show will be staged around Nelson Bay during the school holidays.

Called the Hustle Urban Adventure Challenge, teams will explore the Bay on foot answering questions, solving puzzles and completing challenges with the goal of finishing with the most points, but more importantly having the most fun.

"The Hustle is our way of getting people outside and active while at the same time sneaking in some adventure and education," event director Richard Old said.

"The event will bring new people to Nelson Bay and the peninsula and help them see it differently all the while having fun."

The Hustle is an event by Fully Rad Adventures, supported by Port Stephens Council. It will start and finish at Fly Point on Saturday, July 20.

The Hustle starts with a list of cryptic questions and a map. Teams then decode the clues and plot their route to finish before the time cut off.

The event is designed for all people - from families looking for a great day out, runners wanting to get some training somewhere new and to outdoor enthusiasts wondering how much adventure there is in around the Bay.

"This is a new event for Port Stephens, and we're really excited to be bringing the Urban Hustle here for a huge day of fun and adventure," Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer said.

"It's an opportunity for locals to get out and explore their own backyard, for visitors to discover more of what Port Stephens has to offer, and for businesses to enjoy a unique team building experience.

"It's a family friendly day so I'm keen to see as many teams as possible out in search of the treasure."

The cost to take part is between $45-$58. There are special rates for students and children. For each entry, $5 will be donated to the Yaccaba Centre.

Entries must be completed by July 18 via www.urbanhustle.org.
