Fishermen shoulder to shoulder all in the quest to catch the elusive garfish.
It is the time of year when masses of garfish swim north as part of their life cycle.
As previously mentioned, I have never seen so many from Rocky Point to Fingal, inside the Port then from Cabbage Tree Island to Seal Rocks.
Although small in comparison to other fish, the gar puts up an extraordinary battle once hooked and perform even better in the kitchen.
Best baits include dough, fresh moulded bread or cubes of green prawn. A light line around three kilogram with a float half a metre above a No 10 hook.
Bread crumbs are ideal berley to attract the fish to within casting distance.
I am surprised that with so many garfish in the water that there are not more tailor to be caught.
I'm sure it will not be long until the tailor arrive.
My advice is to organise yourself a smoker. Smoked tailor is sensational.
Strong westerly winds have limited fishing opportunity particularly outside the heads.
The water is crystal clear - ideal for snorkeling.
