Port Stephens councillors will for a second year observe Local Government Week by hitting the road and conducting their ordinary meeting in the community, this time in Nelson Bay.
The Tuesday, July 23 ordinary meeting of council will be held in the Elizabeth Waring Room at Tomaree Sports Complex, Nelson Bay, starting from 5.30pm.
Shifting the meeting from the council chambers in Raymond Terrace to a location within the Port community once a year during or close to Local Government Week was initiated by Mayor Ryan Palmer last year.
Cr Palmer raised the idea of moving the ordinary meeting of council out into the public in a Notice of Motion in early 2018, saying it was a way to engage with the Port community.
At its meeting on February 27, 2018 the council committed to holding one regular meeting in the community for the remainder of the council term.
It was standing room only when the council staged the first community meeting, on July 24, 2018, at Birubi Point Surf Life Saving Club.
It is believed that last year's community council meeting was the first time in more than 13 years that the ordinary meeting had hit the road and was staged outside the council chambers.
All are welcome to attend the council meeting.
