The result is the mouth-watering Love Sea Food Tastes Port Stephens, a month-long celebration of the region's fresh seafood, from August 1 until September 1.
Highlights include:
- An oyster masterclass on August 1 at The Poyers restaurant in Lemon Tree Passage, with oyster grower Paul North and chef Ludovic Poyer;
- Port to Plate gala dinner at Broughtons at the Bay in Nelson Bay on August 3;
- Cooking classes by In House Kitchen, Bannisters Port Stephens, Bluey's Restaurant and The Anchorage;
- Signature series lunches and dinners including a seafood and semillon dinner and a four course degustation lunch;
- A variety of seafood lunch and dinner specials offered by eateries across Port Stephens throughout August;
- Barefoot Bowls Beer and Oysters at Soldier's Point Bowlo on August 4;
- Family fun day at Horizons Golf Resort on August 25, and
- Behind-the-scenes tour of Port Stephens Fisheries Institute on August 2 and 10, or tour the Cookabarra Burramundi Farm.
Not to be missed is the huge, weekend festival finale at Tastes Port Stephens Food, Wine and Jazz on August 31 and September 1 where you can try or buy direct from producers at market stalls in Nelson Bay Town Centre and D'Albora Marinas.
There'll be free live jazz and seafood cooking demonstrations.
"August is the most exciting time all year to experience a taste of the local food and lifestyle now that Love Sea Food and Tastes Port Stephens have come together," Destination Port Stephens chief executive Eileen Gilliland says.
