Mallabula Rugby League Club cemented its top-of-the-table position with an emphatic 48-18 victory over the Glendale Gorillas at the weekend.

The standout player for the Panthers on Sunday was talented lock Nick Hor who really had a great day out, scoring four tries and kicking six goals. He also won the players' player and the best forward award. Captain-coach Connor O'Neill worked hard up front. Fullback Lincoln Melmeth was the best back with strong kick returns and was a constant threat out wide.
The Panthers ladies league tag team were too strong for Cardiff winning 22-10. Caitlin De Pater scored two tries while Kirra Stewart and Maddie Malcolm had strong games.
On August 10 the Mallabula club host its old boys day. The annual get together coincides with the Panthers playing its final home game for 2019. The ladies kick off at 2pm and the men, against West Wallsend, at 3pm.
Fingal Bay Rugby League Club hosted the Windale Eagles last Saturday and paid the price for a slow start. The Eagles exploited poor defence and a sloppy completion rate by the Bomboras. By half time, the visitors had raced to a 22-6 lead before the home side showed determination to get back in the game. However, it was not enough, with the Bomboras going down 28-22.
The players' player award was shared by two hard working forwards - Ben Schneider and Adam Hodson. Winger Denver Perfermant was the pick of the backs. The Bomboras have won six of their 14 outings this season and now sit sixth on the ladder with two rounds left.
The Fingal ladies league tag travelled to Raymond Terrace at the weekend cruised to a comfortable 22-0 win over the Ravens. Misty Sayers scored a try and won the players' player award. Clever fullback Bree Robinson had a fine game scoring two tries. Sisters Victoria and Bec Hawthorn also had strong games.
The Bomboras will next face Cardiff away on August 10. The ladies will be away to Aberglasslyn.
Raymond Terrace Rugby League Club's season from hell continued when they were outclassed 50-12 by Tall Timbers last Saturday.
At the start of the season the Magpies saw five quality players move on to play grade with district clubs and a shocking injury toll mid-season saw their player roster stretched to the limit. However, the team still turns up every week ready to play.
Captain-coach Brooke Roach did his best last weekend and scored his 12th try of the season. Best in a beaten team were Jack Beverly, Dallas Fisher and Duane Daley.
This weekend is a bye for all teams.
Nelson Bay Rugby Union Club faced the might of the strong Wanderers club at Boyd Oval, Medowie last weekend. Despite being down on troops, the Gropers were in the contest at half time, trailing 17-12.
The Two Blues proved they are one of the clubs to beat with a big momentum swing in the second half to finish 34-17 winners. The win saw the Wanderers retain the Hawthorne Cup.
Players' player went to the Bay's versatile utility back Michael Hotene who had a fine game at five eight.
Other players to impress were Miles Eckersley at fullback, Dan Killalea was terrific in defence with 48 tackles while coach Adam Edwards produced a non-stop performance.
Second grade struggled against the well drilled Wanderers outfit with flankers Jordon Byefield and Tom Roacher the best in a beaten side. The Bay play Southern Beaches away on Saturday.
