The worker was trapped under the six-wheel truck at a waste management facility on Newline Road. According to early reports, the man was changing a tyre when he became trapped under the vehicle.
Police, paramedics, rescue helicopter and Port Stephens SES rescue unit were called to the scene just before 4pm. Teams immediately got to work to stabilise the vehicle, which allowed for the safe extraction of the patient.
The man, 28, was treated at the scene before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious, but stable condition. A NSW Ambulance spokesman said the man suffered injuries to his pelvis and lower leg in the incident.
"Port Stephens SES Rescue responded this afternoon to a person trapped beneath a six-wheel Moxy at a waste facility," a Port Stephens SES representative said.
"SES Rescue responded both medium and heavy rescue units.
"It was an excellent inter-agency response and first class support by NSW Ambulance and NSW Police."
SafeWork NSW will now investigate the incident.
