Action Autism, a non-for-profit charity organisation established by Nelson Bay's Les and Judy Merrett, is pushing for government and community support to establish a centre on the Tomaree peninsula.
"The objectives of the organisation are to set up a respite and training facility, to provide speech therapy, occupational therapy, behavioural interventions, life skills, short and long term accommodation options, for children with autism and other disabilities. We really need committee members and helpers in order to create some headway with creating this vision for these families."
Mr Merrett has called on community members who are interested in helping, or would like to become part of the committee, to attend the Action Autism AGM to be held on Tuesday, September 10, from 11am, at the Mexican at the Bay Breeze restaurant.
Those wanting to attend or more information can then they contact the group through its Facebook page or on 0419 147 177.
