Other possible joint pain causes

Don't just assume it's a pulled muscle when it could be arthritis. Some joint pain and arthritis may not be well known. For example:

  • A reaction to medicines - this can cause inflammation one to three weeks after taking the medication
  • Gout - a painful condition caused by a buildup of uric acid
  • Sarcoidosis - an inflammatory condition, causing fever, fatigue, wheezing and joint pain
  • Lupus - inflames and damages joints
  • Fibromyalgia - the central nervous system sends out pain signals
  • Scleroderma a disease of the body's connective tissue
  • Ankylosing spondylitis - a type of arthritis that affects the spine
  • Bone cancer - a rare condition with swelling, pain worse at night or when you're active
