We live in the most beautiful region that I have ever experienced with the beaches, islands, headlands, estuary system and lakes, right at our back door. The Hunter Valley and Barrington Tops are our near neighbours.
Those who enjoy the great outdoors, boating, fishing and diving have hit the jackpot.
I have lived here for over four decades and the novelty of being a resident in such a place has never worn off.
When next you are organising a holiday consider a trip to Broughton Island, camping on Stockton Beach, boating up the Myall River into the mighty Myall Lakes.
You may wish to motor under the two bridges that cross the Karuah River and explore the water way to Allworth.
Maybe a ferry trip across the port to Tea Gardens.
I am amazed at the number of those I meet who have never taken one of these amazing adventures.
Some have visited numerous overseas countries yet have no idea how to get to Broughton Island some eight nautical miles up the coast.
With summer approaching I would suggest you organise yourself to explore Port Stephens. It's quite a place.
