The Bomboras needed to win the final round of the season to sail through to the A-grade semi-finals, but a slow start and trailing 16-0 at half time saw the side's finals dreams slip away.
However, Fingal refused to buckle to the physical Dudley team. Tough prop Lee Preston never took a backward step. Preston and hooker Liam Dooley were named the players' player.
The Fingal girls flew the flag for the club with a 22-0 win over Raymond Terrace Ravens. Carly Pittman was players' player. Try scorers were Victoria Hawthorne, Marnie Parfitt and Bree Robinson.
Fingal face University in the elimination final at Lakeside on Saturday from 11.40am.
