The 67-year-old mother of eight children said that she was already looking froward to competing in 2020 when the iconic running event celebrates its 50th anniversary.
"I am extremely pleased that I was able to finish the race, achieve my bucket list goal and raise much needed funds for a worthwhile charity," Amanda said.
But it did not come without its challenges.
"Not long into my training I broke my big toe in two places, then about one month before race day I suffered an Achilles tendon injury running up the Stockton sand dunes. Fortunately, both injuries healed in time for the race."
Amanda said she started the race with a small group of charity superstars who had achieved their fundraising targets. "The conditions were perfect and it was exciting to get carried along with the sea of people in the initial stages. All was going well until about a kilometre into the race when I felt a sharp pain in my thigh.
"The paramedics came to my assistance but there wasn't much they could do, suggesting that I stretch my legs before setting off again. So with stubborn determination I soldiered on, limping and in some considerable discomfort."
Amanda said that she conquered 'heartbreak hill' courtesy of the thoughts of her many supporters, family, friends and donors. "Tears welled in my eyes as I made my way down the hill to the finish line at Bondi Beach, where I was greeted by the Autism team."
A member of Port Stephens Legacy and Marine Rescue, Amanda thanked her many supporters and sponsors including Anna Bay Pharmacy, Rubi Blue Cafe, Anna Bay BP, Port Stephens Eggs and Soldiers Point Bowling Club.
Amanda's time was 4hrs 35mins and 33 secs.
