Having finished wooden spooners in the competition last season, the girls have achieved a impressive reversal of form by taking out the minor premiership in 2019 and will contest the grand final this weekend.
Coach Darren Mylan had nothing but praise for the team, known as the Bumble Bees, who have demonstrated a positive attitude to both training and on game days.
"Learning new training drills each week and watching the players execute them on game day certainly makes the coaching job very rewarding and to see the happiness on the kids faces ticks all the boxes," Mylan said.
"I personally have loved watching the girls develop their skills over the course of the season and I can say without hesitation that it has been a joy to coach this playing group. Having said that, there is one game to go and again the players will need to be at their best."
The Bumble Bees secured the minor premiership with a record of 13 wins and just two losses. The grand final will be played on Sunday (Father's Day) at Ray Watt oval with kick-off at 9am.
Mylan said that the credit for the turn around in the team's position this season was a team effort involving the coaching staff, manager, parents and of course the players.
"These girls all turn up to training each and every week, give their best at training and listen intently to instructions. I have a game plan for every match, which we talk about prior to the girls taking the pitch and I am thrilled to say that they have followed these instructions which have contributed to their success."
The team comprises of Luca Mylan, Skyla Conlon, Charli Anderson, Lucah McAusland, Abby Withers, Chloe Burford, Tamsyn Mackey, Ellie Winter, Libby Gentle, Eden McAusland, Millie Mackenzie, Hayley Gentle, Jessica Herbert, Kate Vine and manager Joanne Ireland.
A large contingent of supporters will travel from Medowie to Sunday's decider at Ray Watt, which is also home to the Newcastle Jets training facilities at the Newcastle University Callaghan campus.
In other club news, the Over 35s have progressed to their grand final decider this Friday night after a dramatic finish to the final played against Charlestown.
After the scores finished level at 1-1 at full time, the game went into extra time, only to end with another draw, 2-2. A penalty shoot out saw the Medowie boys win 6-3 and a shot at the grand final.
Unfortunately, the finals series came to an end for the club's AAFri/1 team who went down to Mayfield Junior 1-0. They tried their best and didn't give up until the final whistle blew. Also contesting the grand final this weekend is the U13 girls team after a great win against South Wallsend in the semi-final.
