The merged operation has elected Simon Plummer as the new president with Jeff Simms taking on the secretary role for the seniors and Matt Brealey for the juniors.
"We have decided to operate the club under the one banner as Nelson Bay Cricket Club to offer strength in numbers," Mr Simms said.
"It is also hoped that the more experienced players can provide the younger one with hands-on coaching and mentorship. It will be a challenging season for us but one we believe will set us on the path to future success.
"Three years ago we were club championship winners and we would like to think we can be back among the district's leading cricket clubs."
Mr Brealey said that junior pathways were an important aspect for the merged club. "It is hoped that having the seniors and juniors together would provide a more seamless transition for young cricketers looking to join the ranks of their senior counterparts," he said.
"We can share players and facilities as required. It also gives some of the junior players the benefits of playing on turf wickets."
Mr Brealey said that the club was seeking a NSW Sport & Recreation grant to have cricket nets installed at Korora Oval (Old Salamander) to cater for the anticipated growth in the summer sport. He said that the Salamander nets were also in need of maintenance.
Nelson Bay is looking to field three teams - A, B and C grades - in the seniors competition, as well at least one team in each of the junior grades, comprising 5-7 years (junior blasters), 8-10 years (master blasters), as well as 10-11, 12-13 and 14-17 year age groups. The club will also field teams in the girls/women's competitions.
Training starts on Friday, September 13, from 4.30pm at the Salamander cricket nets while the competition kicks off on Saturday, October 12. Prior to that the club is offering a four-hour coaching course for interested cricket enthusiasts to be held at Tomaree High School on Monday, September 2 and 9, from 6-8pm.
