Liberal MLC Taylor Martin said that the role of the advisory committee was to provide a voice for the community and stakeholder interest groups.
"The Port Stephens-Great Lakes Marine Park aims to help to conserve marine biodiversity, while at the same time providing for activities such as diving, boating, fishing and tourism," Mr Martin said.
"The committees are not decision-making bodies, but provide important local advice to the NSW Government on marine park management, including local values, threats, issues and opportunities.
The advisory committee can include up to 12 members and alternates with skills, expertise and knowledge in areas such as Aboriginal culture, fishing, local government, boating, tourism, marine conservation, marine science, to ensure the wide range of community values can be considered.
"Successful nominees would be appointed as members of the committee for a term of up to four years. Members of the community with relevant skills and experience are encouraged to apply."
Some of the interest groups in Port Stephens include commercial and recreational fishers, business, tourism and environmental organisations.
