Port Stephens Council replaced 250 metres of rock seawall along the bank of the Hunter River in Raymond Terrace throughout July and August.
The council said the old wall was subject to a "number of failures along the front of the park" and that its replacement and upgrade is a "great result for Raymond Terrace".
"Not only does it look great, but the new rock wall will stabilise the bank to protect the reserve, reduce erosion issues in the area and will improve public safety for park users," Brock Lamont from Port Stephens Council said.
The steps that previously led down to the water's edge have been replaced with a wall of rocks stretching from the public wharf out the front of the Junction Inn Hotel to the wharf where the fishing boats are docked.
The council said that the fencing used to block access to the water while the upgrade was being carried out will remain up until the end of September while the freshly laid turf settled.
