The club is aiming to get in excess of 100 cinema-goers booked to see the film 'Ride Like a Girl', the story of Australia's first ever female Melbourne Cup winning jockey Michelle Payne.

A member of Nelson Bay for 20 years and a past district governor, Rotarian Helen Ryan said that there was more work to be done as far as vaccination in concerned to ensure Australia remains polio free.

"We are inviting members of the public to wear something red and join us in continuing the work of Rotary International in the eradication of polio," Ms Ryan said.

"This project was initiated in the 1980s and has had amazing results with the vaccination of in excess of 2.5 billion children from 122 countries worldwide.

"We are hoping that Nigeria will be polio-free by 202, leaving only two countries with endemic polio, Afghanistan and Pakistan."

Ms Ryan said that the fundraiser at the cinema was a great way of working to achieve this goal. Tickets must be purchased by September 20.

The movie follows the story of Michelle Payne, the youngest of 10 children who followed in the footsteps of seven of her siblings.
