The peace vigil is part of more than 3,000 demonstrations occurring around the world sponsored by "Campaign Nonviolence" during the week of September 14-22, 2019.
Under the banner of 'Campaign Nonviolence', thousands of people will take a public stand against all violence for a culture of peace and nonviolence free from war, poverty, racism and the climate crisis.
Historically separate movements are joining forces to tackle these many forms of violence and to build a more just, peaceful and sustainable world.
Alongside my sister and co-organiser Ronda Odgers, I have been actively campaigning for peace through Peace is Possible since returning in 2015 from the centenary commemorations of the Battle of Gallipoli in Turkey. Our group based in Port Stephens is call Peace is Possible.
Campaigning for peace through Peace Is Possible has widened its focus from the Battle of Gallipoli to a broader involvement with other organisations campaigning for world peace.
On Saturday we will provide information about other peace initiatives and opportunities for involvement. There will be art supplies for those who would like to express their messages of peace through drawing, writing or photography.
It is hoped that the messages of peace can be shared with the many other people participating worldwide.
'Campaign Nonviolence' is a grassroots movement to mainstream active nonviolence using the vision of Martin Luther King Jr. that calls us to become people of nonviolence and to resolve personal and global conflicts nonviolently.
In September 2018, the Campaign Nonviolence National Week of Action held over 2,660 actions, events and marches across 25 countries. This was an historic unprecedented new form of organizing in Australia, and we invite you to help us build up this national week of action.
The peace vigil will call for an end to war, poverty, racism and environmental destruction as part of a series of demonstrations across the world.
