The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting temperatures to hit the 30s on Friday, October 4.
In Nelson Bay, the temperature is expected to top 30 degrees while in Raymond Terrace it is predicted to hit 33 degrees.
The NSW Rural Fire Service said Friday's fire danger rating would be severe, and a total fire ban would be in place across the Greater Hunter.
An RFS spokesman advised members of the public to revise their bushfire survival plan and to be aware of the heightened bushfire conditions forecast for Friday.
Temperatures are expected to dip to the mid- to high-20s on Saturday and Sunday before creeping up to the 29 degree mark for Nelson Bay and 33 degrees for Raymond Terrace again on Monday.
