Employee charged for alleged $37k theft from Soldiers Point business

A woman has been charged with 16 stealing offences after allegedly defrauding a Soldiers Point business of close to $40,000 during a two-year period, NSW Police said.

Last month, Port Stephens-Hunter Police District officers launched an investigation after the owner of a restaurant on Soldiers Point Road noticed discrepancies in the business' takings.

Following extensive inquiries, about 8.15am on Tuesday, November 5, police attended a Nelson Bay residence and arrested a 42-year-old woman.

Police allege the woman, who was an employee of the restaurant, stole $37,149.40 from the business.

The Nelson Bay woman has been charged with 16 counts of steal property as clerk/servant.

She was granted conditional bail and will appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday, December 9.
