Tilli Fest, formerly known as Tilligerry Festival, will have an environmental theme when it is staged on the foreshore of Lemon Tree Passage in Henderson Park on Saturday.
While the traditional fun rides, music, dance and entertainment will again feature at this year's event, the focus will centre around the area's rich history, heritage and environmental assets. A new feature will be the 'garden ramble' which will showcase a number of local gardens, including Tanilba House and Heaven Gardens at Salt Ash.
Organisers Fran Corner and Bay Marshall said that the day will kick off at 10am with a sail past on the water and finish with a bang with a spectacular fireworks display from 9pm.
"Our theme this year is 'no waste' and we are encouraging visitors to sort out there rubbish and there will be an emphasis on recycling, particularly return and earn," Ms Corner said.
"There will be an environmental display throughout and we are urging as many visitors as possible to walk or cycle to Henderson Park instead of drive. The boat launch will remain open but boat trailers will need to park elsewhere after launching their boats."
Some of the many activities for kids and families include dodgem cars, carnival rides, market stalls, live music (featuring the band Funktus), community group and Aboriginal cultural displays plus food vans and sausage sizzle.
"The two major features later in the day will be 'The Curious Legends' light-up puppet show followed by the popular fireworks display. These are not to be missed.
"We are also running a photography competition, showcasing images of previous Tilligerry Festival action and activities."
Ms Corner said that the committee had been raising money for months to ensure Tilli Fest 2019 could be enjoyed by all.
Some of the supporters of this year's festival include Port Stephens Council, Tilligerry RFS, Tilligerry Football club, Local Land Services, Lemon Tree Passage Bowling Club, The Drop Youth Group, Combined Churches, Bunnings and KU Pre-School.
