Ben Reynolds, the sponsorship director for the FootGolf Asia Cup and president of Nelson Bay Football Club, said it was great to see children trying out the hybrid sport, which is a cross between football and golf, in the lead up to the international tournaments being staged at the Salamander Bay golf resort November 18-24.
"It's a relatively new sport, so it's still finding its niche," he said. "Getting kids and families into it will help it grow and to find its niche. It has a lot of potential, as a sport and a social activity."
In a bid to further promote the sport when the Asia Cup and World Tour roll into town, there will be a number of opportunities for the public to meet the international competitors, watch them up close and in action and to take part in other activities being staged around the event.

Horizons has secured the hosting rights for the event until 2021.
