Stewart, who is from Nelson Bay and is coming off a breakthrough season with the NSW Waratahs, started on the right wing but had limited opportunities.
The Kiwis dominated from the outset, especially in the forwards.
Stewart made the most of the few times she received the ball in space. She made two breaks early in the second half, producing a neat in-and-away to get outside the defender and race down the touch line. Twice she off-loaded on the inside but the pass went down.
The Kiwi forwards set the tone, crossing for two early tries from rolling mauls to set up a 26-0 advantage at half-time.
Australia A, which is comprised of fringe and next generation Wallaroos, had their opening match cancelled after an outbreak of measles in the Tongan team.
They meet Samoa in the third game on Tuesday.

Australia and New Zealand are using the tournament to give players international experience ahead of the 2021 World Cup to be held in New Zealand.
However, championships in Fiji is a qualification tournament for the hosts, Papua New Guinea and Samoa.
Wallaroos head coach Dwayne Nestor said: "This tournament gives us an excellent opportunity to expose more players to the wider Wallaroos program and show them the standard required to play Internationally.
"2020 is a very important year for the Wallaroos as we put together the final building blocks for the 2021 Rugby World Cup. More game time is crucial to growing our depth and I am looking forward to this tour bringing out more players that can compete at Test level."
