Ten Oakfield Ranch camels well known on the competitive racing circuit will be on show and off and racing, literally, at the Camel Races and Rodeo at Maitland Showgrounds on November 30.
"Camel Racing Downunder asked us to be part of these events earlier in the year and they've just exploded in popularity," Mr Sansom said.
"The last event was in Penrith and that had about 15,000 people through the gate. I suggested we bring the event to Maitland. It's a good community with a lot of people that I think will enjoy this type of event."
Having grown up showing animals and produce as a junior farmer at the Maitland Show, Mr Sansom, from Woodberry, said he was excited to showcase his camels in this unique event so close to home.
"It's even better that we don't have to travel far to do it. Maitland is just up the road," he said.
Up to 28 camels from across NSW will take part in camel racing at the showground on Saturday. Racing starts at 4pm.
There will also be other camels available for rides. Some of Mr Sansom's most competitive camels - Bob, Pete, Jackie, Spice and Dolly - will be saddled up during Saturday's racing.
The other side to the event is a traditional style rodeo with horses and bucking bulls. Also on offer will be pony rides, amusement rides, market stalls, food and children's activities.
Monique Annetts, founder of the camel racing and rodeo, said it was established as part of Camel Racing Downunder's "goal to bring different and family friendly events to all parts of Australia".
"I don't know that anywhere else in the world has a combined camel racing and rodeo event," she said.
"Certainly rodeo is huge in many parts of the world including USA and Canada and camel racing is a major sport in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, their events are enormous, but they're not typically held together."
Tickets - $30 for adults and $5 for children (aged 12 and above) - are available from the Camel Racing Downunder Facebook page or at the gate when they open at 12pm.
