Recently, Raymond Terrace Little Athletics Centre had a visit from Olympic 100m hurdles gold medalist Sally Pearson.
Centre president David Summerville said the centre was privileged to have Ms Pearson inspiring the next generation of athletes in Raymond Terrace.
"Coles is the major sponsor of Little Athletics and has been proactive in providing exceptional support to all centres through boxes of bananas each week for the season, a marquee, volunteer vests, table cloth, baskets, an insulated drink dispenser and equipment grants," he said.
"We were fortunate to have received a grant of $3500 which enabled us to purchase a javelin trolley, new starting system, sand covers for the long jump pits and some training equipment."
Pearson, is the 2011 and 2017 world champion and 2012 Olympic champion in the 100m hurdles. She also won a silver medal at the 2008 Olympics and the 2013 world championships.
Still looking incredibly fit, Pearson answered questions about her time as the best 100m hurdler in the world and Olympics, while confessing to maintaining a healthy diet.
"Sally went out of her way to give the athletes and parents an unforgettable experience with everyone having a photo opportunity and even hurdling with the under-8s and joining in long jump with another group. Before leaving she also took the time to mingle with athletes on the field during their events," Summerville said.
Before leaving Mr Summerville presented Ms Pearson with one of the centre's shirts. "It was a very special experience that will be remembered and talked about by the athletes and families for some time."
