Well said Lindsay Brown [in regard to the letter on climate change and the recent fires titled 'If not now, when'], (Examiner, November 21) my thoughts exactly.

For readers, I bring this to your attention, an abridged excerpt from the November 14 edition of the Glen Innes Examiner, an opinion piece by Badja Sparks, long time resident of Wytaliba.
"Over the last three years, in co-operation with NSW Forestry, National Parks and the RFS, we have had very extensive controlled burning in the state forest and national park on our perimeter...
"The fire that came last Friday was of another order of magnitude altogether. A crown fire roaring in from the west on a hot afternoon with an 80km per hour wind, it wasn't on the ground, it was a firestorm in the air, raining fire.
"There was no fuel on the ground, it was already burned....
"We had a bushfire two months ago that burned most of our property. It didn't matter. It burned again.
"This is climate changed. We're in the worst drought recorded. A million hectares of bush has burned. Barnaby says it's Green voters and the sun's magnetic field." [Ends].
Our leaders are a joke.

Thanks for support
CWA Nelson Bay Branch held another successful Christmas market day last Saturday and wishes to thank the community for its kind support.
This year port and chocolate Christmas fruit cakes were made for busy people, and of course our famous CWA scones were the highlight in delicious morning teas.
Money raised throughout the year is given to the drought appeal, our local schools, endometriosis research and other worthy causes.
Assisting our community as well as the wider community is very important to all our members.
If you are interested in being part of this happy group, drop in to the CWA Hall in Gowrie Ave, Nelson Bay on a Monday morning at 9:30am and stay for a cuppa. For further information contact Kim on 49841119.
Kim Withers, President, CWA Nelson Bay

Outspoken but not heard
If I might comment on the letter to Editor by George Philips in the November 14 edition ['Time to speak up', Examiner].
Anthony Albanese is the leader of the opposition, not the government, he has spoken about the government's silencing of the media and the secrecy of the current government, but being in opposition and of the political persuasion not usually favoured by most of the media, Albanese doesn't get a lot of traction with his comments.
The people who chose to vote for the current government for whatever reason will just have to be like those that didn't vote for them, but have to put up with them until the next election. The people of Paterson electorate although voting Labor were out voted by people in other electorates, unfortunately.

Wake up at the wheel
It was painful to watch the constant flow of seemingly brain dead motorists travelling along Dowling Street on Thursday, October 21.
With 'road closed' signs posted on the corner of every street between Fingal and Parkes streets, along with accompanying detour indicators, the steady stream of vehicles being told to U-turn was totally indicative of how completely "dumbed-down", inattentive, and robotic, most people have become while driving.
The council worker at the final barrier before the run up the hill to the golf club should write a self-help book on 'How to keep your head in the face of stupidity'.
