Police said the girl died in John Hunter Hospital in the early hours of the morning on Sunday, December 1.
Emergency services were called to a home in Tanilba Bay about 4.30pm on Tuesday, November 26 on reports that a 5 year old girl had been found unresponsive inside a car parked in the driveway.
Temperatures in the area reached the mid-30s on November 26, with Weatherzone observing an outside temperature of 27 degrees at Williamtown at 4.30pm.
The girl was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition where she remained in an induced coma.
Port Stephens police had been investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Officers will not prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.
