FINGAL Beach SLSC continues its wonderful community work with their Starfish Nipper program.
This is a modified program for children with special needs aged 6 years and over. These include autism, attention deficit disorder, Downs syndrome, Aspergers and other physical and intellectual disabilities.
The program is run by Mitch Fraser and Nikki Morrow with the assistance of older cadets and nippers.
Activities include beach and water games, flags, running, water familiarisation and surf safety.
The Starfish program is increasing in numbers thanks to specialised equipment which gives the club more accessibility. This equipment includes wheelchair friendly matting for the sand and specialised beach wheelchairs.
For some these nippers, the program is the only outdoor activity they participate in. It is held in conjunction with other nipper programs to make it more inclusive.
