Compton competed in Western Australia on November 16-17. After chasing a fellow golden master competitor aged in 60s the entire 19kms, Compton finally caught him with less than 50m to go in the race and finished five seconds ahead to take third place, earning him a national title.
Out of 60 competitors in the long course, Compton finished 28th overall. He followed this with a 12km short course on Sunday, finishing 11th outright in a men's field of 32 competitors, once again taking third place to claim a second national title in his age division.
