Hunter River High School's senior men's cricket team has progressed through to the Hunter Region final of the NSW Combined High Schools (CHS) open boys cricket tournament.

The team of Heatherbrae students defeated Merewether High School on November 29 to move through to the final stage.
It is the furthest the school has progress since first taking part in the annual tournament.
Hunter River High's spinner Max Farmer claimed six wickets against the strong Merewether batting side when the teams faced each other at King Park Sports Complex in Raymond Terrace on November 29.
Fellow Hunter River High spinner Jaxon Brooks claimed two wickets.
Pacemen Jayden Newson and Alex Lidbury claimed one each, bowling Merewether out for 85.
Hunter River High started off the run chase slow, losing six wickets within the first 15 overs.
In the end, Hunter River High reached Merewether's total of 85 runs with one wicket to spare.
Batsmen Nathan Katz and Oska Greentree got the home side over the line.
Hunter River High will now progress to the final against either Warner's Bay High School or Whitebridge High School, who are due to face each other in the semi-final.
The Heatherbrae students are expected to face the winner in the final in the next two weeks.
