A larger-than-life character, the former racehorse owner and publican played first grade soccer with Wallsend, was a member of the Bay Area Boardriders club, formed the Anna Bay Chamber of Commerce, and later was the president and benefactor to the Northern Blues rugby league club.
He was also a keen member of the 'Dirty Dozen' golf group. On his passing, the family started the Dave White memorial golf day seven years ago with the help of family friend Steve Saunders.
This year's event was held on December 27 and attracted a quality field of 144 players including family friends, tradies, business people and rugby league identities,.
The Ambrose event winners were Kris Paton, Marty Redriff, Graham Donnelly and Dale Gardner.
The day is also a lot of fun and over the years has raised money for local worthy causes with the help of generous sponsors.
This year the White family donated $8080 raised from the day to former Blues team mate, 32-year-old father of two Chris Poulos, who had a devastating surf accident before Christmas at Dudley Beach.
Chris is currently in the Royal North Shore spinal unit and has received visits from the North Sydney Men of League and the Manly rugby league club and phone support from Roosters fullback James Tedesco.
