NELSON Bay Cricket Club have started 2020 in style with strong wins.

On Saturday, January 11, the Makos won their A-grade fixture against the Journeyman. Matt Palmer was the main destroyer with the impressive figures 5-22.

B1 were too strong for Maryland Tavern with Bryce Causley capturing 5-20 with a fine spell of bowling.

This Saturday, January 18, the Makos will honour former player Kristian White who passed away in 2018. He was a valued member of the Makos and great supporter of sport in the Bay.

The memorial day will be held at Don Waring Oval in Tomaree Sports Complex. A minute silence will be held at 12.50pm before the A-grade side plays. The club will supply a barbecue on the day for all in attendance.

Cricket club president Simon Plummer said the memorial day will become an annual event.

"We would like to invite all friends and family to remember a lifelong friend and member of our club who was tragically taken from us in October 2018," Plummer said. "Kristian was involved in numerous Port Stephens community sports clubs and was loved by all."
