Up to 30 strongmen and women from all over the country will be flexing their muscles to raise money for the legends at the Medowie Rural Fire Brigade.

And subject to availability, a Medowie fire truck will be used as part of the program to be hosted by the Coal City Strongman organisation .

Event organiser Chris Doohan, a central ward councillor, said that everyone was welcome to attend the community fundraising event to be held from 9am to 6pm in the hotel's carpark.

"We will have raffles and other competitions on the day with proceeds going to the Medowie RFS. We would be grateful for any donations or sponsorship for the day," he said.

Australia's leading masters strongman, Benny Chessum, from Medowie, said that the competition would double as a qualifier for the Australian strongman alliance national titles and a place on the Australian team to contest the worlds in the US in November.

"We are expecting between 25 and 30 men and women competing in a range of weight categories starting at under 65 kilos [for women] right through to men's opens. The heaviest competitor weighs in at 170kg," Chessum said.

"Events include a hot rod pull with a rope, a max log lift (160kg) above the head, atlas stones and a silver dollar deadlift."

Chessum said that the fire truck pull would be a highlight.

"The truck weighs about 10 tonnes so most of the competitors will be able to move it, but the challenge will be to pull it for the full 20m."

Last year Chessum finished an admirable 24^th in a field of 230 at the world strongman games held in Daytona, USA. Chessum's partner Rebekah North finished 20^th in the world open category.
