The Tennis Australia program, called Get Your Racquet On, encourages adults aged 25 and up with some past tennis experience to get back on the court by making it commitment-free, social and easy to book courts with the option to play modified games after work, get help from experienced coaches and borrow equipment.
Cheryl Moss, secretary of Nelson Bay Tennis Club which is hosting the program's Open Court Sessions, a modified format of play, starting January 30, encouraged past players to sign up to find their "love for tennis again".
"Open Court Sessions is for anyone who has ever thought 'I love tennis, I used to play' or 'I want to play tennis again, I just don't have anyone to play with'," she said.
"Open Court Sessions is a solution that allows for all styles of play. For every level, for every age, for every person.
"We want to get people out there interested in tennis playing again. We also want to get our club growing again. If we get people back playing socially through this program, we can hopefully get them interested in other club programs and events."
Open Court Sessions involves on- and off-court elements. The on-court activities are made up of modified tennis in a fun and social environment. The off-court activities includes food, drink, music and socialising.
Clubs will provide hosts who guide attendees through the 90 minute sessions.

"We'll provide racquets and balls, food and drinks and a lot of time on the courts with tips and advice by the on-court host, which is me," Soldiers Point Tennis Club president Paul McQuarrie said of its Open Court Sessions.
"We may run some more events depending on the success of the first two."
