At 3.30pm on Sunday, one of two southbound lanes were closed as emergency services work to once again contain the Rangers Road bushfire.
The fire, which has burned 28 hectares of bushland, is under control. The fire is at advice level.
Raymond Terrace Fire and Rescue is advising residents in Rees James Road to be on the lookout for embers.
"Fire and Rescue NSW has two extra appliances on the way to protect the town," the service said.
"NSW Rural Fire Service are working on the fire itself.
"If you see a fire without a fire truck in attendance, call 000 immediately."
Firefighters were called to investigate a plume of smoke seen north of Richardson Road on Saturday afternoon.
The RFS undertook backburning behind Richardson Road to stop the spread of the fire, which blanketed the Riverview area in smoke.
The fire broke containment lines late on Saturday and spotted to the Pacific Highway, which it did again about 3pm on Sunday.
"Crews continue to patrol the fire ground today. Large amounts of smoke (often dark or black in colour) are still visible as the fire burns internally," Raymond Terrace Rural Fire Brigade said.
"Yesterday, the fire broke containment to the west and spotted into the median strip on the Pacific Highway."
