The club will field an under 19s and ladies league tag side in the Newcastle Rugby League competition.
Under 19s will be coached by Andrew Chapman, assisted by former Manly and Northern Blues premiership winner Ji Hill, who also has the job of working on the the club's pre-season fitness.
After years of playing and training at the elite level, Hill will introduce players to new training skills.
At a preliminary run last week, the Sharks had five S.G Ball and Combined Catholic College representative players in their squad leading up to the start of the season.
The club will announce upcoming trial games in late February to early March at their season launch in coming weeks.
FINGAL Bay athlete Neil Parfitt has continued his impressive strike rate at athletic carnivals across the state.
Last week at the country athletic championships held at Dubbo, Neil picked up two gold and silver medals.
The former Nelson Bay rugby league flying winger and goal scoring sharpshooter has tuned into distance events in recent years and won gold in the 400 metre and 5000m events for the 60 age group.
Neil picked up silver behind the state champion in the 800 and 1500m races.
Neil continues his busy schedule this weekend at the state masters championships at Sydney Olympic Park.
He also reports on a stellar performance by up-and-coming Raymond Terrace athlete at the country championships.
Caleb Reungkitchaya, 17, who won gold in the 1500 and 3000m races. He looks to have a great future in athletics.
NELSON Bay Cricket Club will hold their annual Mark Palmer Memorial Super 7s cricket challenge on February 23.
Entries will be finalised this week.
The Makos are still a semi-final chance in A-grade and B1 with four games in the competition remaining.
Last Saturday in tough conditions the Makos' B2 caused the upset of the round in a 20/20 format defeating Redhead all out for 58.
In reply to the Makos' 108, bowler Chris Gilvear lead the charge with the excellent figures 4-11 with batsman Tom McCoy 21 including three fours.
Matt Clements, 18, started strongly.
Edgeworth posted a winning score against the Makos' B1, 9-127, with the Bay only compiling 83 runs.
The Bay bowlers produced some fine bowling with Matt Blyth 4-7 and Bryce Causley 2-4.
A-grade had the bye.
