Largely coordinated by Port Stephens Council with contributions from government services and community groups, the schedule for the two-week festival, running February 11 to 21, is jam-packed with more events and activities than ever before.
"NSW Seniors Festival is a great opportunity for seniors to get active, socialise, and share their skills and wisdom while connecting with their community," Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer said.
"Our program of events in for 2020 is bigger and better than ever, with a huge 25 events happening across Port Stephens.
"So whether you want to connect with others, find out more about technology, get moving with yoga or aquatic fitness classes, learn some healthy cooking skills, have a singalong or a dance-off - there's really something for everyone."
The Port's seniors festival activities will kick off at 9am on February 11 with a bag-making event at Raymond Terrace Senior Citizens Centre.
The Irrawang Street centre will also host a singalong from 2pm on February 14, led by Sydney songstress Suze Pratten.
The Raymond Terrace Seniors Computer Group is inviting members of the community wishing to learn how to use their computer, tablet, phone or camera, internet, email or social media better to drop in to the centre on Fridays between 9am and noon for one-on-one assistance.
Tutorials for more advanced users are run 12pm-1.30pm. For more information or to register for a tutorial email RTSCGroup@gmail.com.
Week one (February 11-14) festival highlights include a healthy cooking workshop by the Wholesome Collective and yoga class for seniors at Fern Bay Community Centre, an integratedliving community wellness day in Raymond Terrace, a coding class and a cyber security talk at Raymond Terrace Library.
Week two (February 17-21) festival highlights include aquatic fitness in Raymond Terrace, Country Women's Association morning tea in Nelson Bay, lunch dance with Rox Pianoman at Tilligerry RSL Sports Club, Wanda Headland walk with Landcare and a free concert by the SeaSide Singers.
Seniors are also being encouraged to join the Lakeside Leisure Centre Aquathon in Raymond Terrace on Tuesday, February 18. The aim of the event is to get more seniors interested in Aqua Aerobics while at the same time attempt to set a new world record for the largest class. It will be held at the Raymond Terrace outdoor pool from 10am. Registration is from 9am on the day. The cost is 415 to participate with the money going to the Lower Hunter RFS.
There will be coding and cyber security classes, legal and money talks, a book discussion and movie screenings held at Raymond Terrace and Salamander Bay libraries throughout the busy week two of the festival.
