Each student was on Wednesday presented a $2000 Port Stephens Mayoral Academic Scholarship.
The annual program is a joint initiative between Port Stephens Council, businesses and organisations to support the next generation of leaders.
For the 2020 program, 14 businesses gave generously to the scholarship prize pool amounting to $36,000.
"The investment of one scholarship from a local business makes a big difference to a young person setting out on the next stage of their academic journey," Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer said.
"Whether it is a year's worth of text books, a laptop computer, or student accommodation - this contribution goes a long way to support local students and encourage lifelong learning.
"This year, we had students studying everything from mechatronics, medicine and chemical engineering to science, environmental studies and law.
"The talent and determination of our students here in Port Stephens is something to be very proud of.
"I want to thank each and every one of the businesses who contributed to this fantastic program for their support and for helping our local youth to achieve their goals and fulfil their dreams.
"The program not only supports students financially, but offers both the business sponsor and the student an opportunity to grow professional networks and become leaders of Port Stephens."
Businesses that contributed to the 2020 scholarship program were: Ampcontrol, Destination Port Stephens, Hunter Land, Hunter Readymixed Concrete, McDonald Jones Homes, Newcastle Airport, Port Stephens FM, Raymond Terrace Bowling Club, Salamander Bay Recycling, Soldiers Point Bowling Club, SUEZ Resource Recovery Centre, The Wests Groups, Tomago Aluminium and Weathertex.
