The Port's young female leaders will have the opportunity to share their passions and vision for the future with members of the wider community during a "local celebration of a global event" in March.

Female leaders from Tomaree, Irrawang and Hunter River high schools have once again been invited to form a panel and speak at the International Women's Day breakfast, which will be hosted for a third year by the state MP Kate Washington and federal MP Meryl Swanson on Monday, March 9.
"We're very proud of the event," Ms Swanson, the member for Paterson, said. "It's continued to grow, which means people have enjoyed it and have benefited from it on some level.
"The breakfast is a really great event on lots of levels. It brings lots of local women together to celebrate an international event. It's also really inspiring to hear from our young women, but I think it's also really important to give them a voice and a platform.
"They get a voice through friends, family and school but when you take it to another level and they get the opportunity to speak about things they're passionate about or even talk about things they're interested in, it really resonates with people.
"I think people get energised by hearing a young woman stand up and say 'this is what I care about this is what I want for the future'.
"It's particularly good for Kate and I to hear from people in that way. Its another way to learn what the priorities are for of a section of our community."
The breakfast will be held at Murrook Culture Centre in Williamtown from 7.15am.
Stalls by local businesses will be set up at Murrook. There will also be raffles.
Money raised at the breakfast will be split and donated to the Yacaaba Centre, Port Stephens Family and Neighbourhood Services and Murrook.
The breakfast is open to all members of the community to attend.
The other major International Women's Day event to be staged in Port Stephens will be the Salamander Bay Rotary Club's lunch on Friday, March 6.
Rotarian Wendy Stein will be the guest speaker. In 2019, the Taylors Beach grandmother was awarded the Australia-wide 'Outstanding Rotarian of the Year 2018-19' recognising her 14 years of work in Papua New Guinea.
The winners of Port Stephens Council's three International Women's Day scholarships, worth $1000 each, will also be announced at the lunch, which will be held at Soldiers Point Bowling Club from 11.30am.
