Granted permission a fortnight ago to be home schooled, 12-year-old Cody Thacker hit on the idea of making hand wash and donating the profits to those in need.
"We asked Cody to choose a project that he thought could help the community and within three days he had started an organisation called 'Kids Against Corona'," Cody's mother, Kylie Thacker, from Medowie, said.
"He came up with the hand sanitser idea and the name after he saw an increasing need and his willingness to help the community.
"He was fortunate to be able to make the hand sanitiser [which comes in lliquid form] under the supervision of a pharmacist using the formula approved by the World Health Organisation."
Cody then designed his own labels, sourced the bottles and all of the ingredients.
The wash is sold online and he uses the small profits on each bottle to source more ingredients and make extra product, some of which is then donated to people most in need, such as nursing homes.
"I feel pretty good about being able to help people in need as it is a way of keeping people that little bit safer through these uncertain times," Cody said.
To date, Cody has sold eight x 1 litre and 120 x 100ml bottles. He now has only 80ml bottles available.
To place an order people should go to Cody's www.kidagainstcorona.com website, pay online and organise a safe pickup point.
