Work began on June 1 to rebuild a 600 metre section of the busy Williamtown road, between Barrie Close and Nelson Bay Road, and is expected to continue for three weeks, weather permitting.
The work is being carried out in the westbound lane (left side if you were travelling from Williamtown to towards Heatherbrae and Tomago).
During the works, being undertaken by Port Stephens Council on behalf of Transport NSW, a detour will be in place from June 1 to June 15.
However, the road will be open to traffic on Sunday, June 7 and Monday, June 8, during the long weekend.
Westbound motorists will be detoured via either Richardson Road towards Raymond Terrace or Nelson Bay Road toward Newcastle.
Motorists are being advised to plan ahead as the detour is expected to add up to 25 kilometres to journeys, which is about 20 minutes travel time.
Cabbage Tree Road and emergency services will be able to access the road.
Lane closures and a stop/slow traffic arrangement will be in place during work hours (7am-6pm Monday to Saturday) from Tuesday, May 16 for one week.
