A 29-year-old man is recovering in hospital after crashing a motorcycle during a police pursuit in Raymond Terrace in the early hours of Thursday morning.

About 12am on August 27, Port Stephens-Hunter Police District officers were were travelling along Port Stephens Street in Raymond Terrace when they attempted to stop a Suzuki motorbike.
Police allege the motorbike failed to stop and officers initiated a pursuit.
Shortly after, police said, the bike hit a gutter at a roundabout at the intersection of Port Stephens Street and Bourke Street.
The rider, the 29 year old, was treated at the scene before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle for treatment to a serious leg injury.
He remains at the hospital under police guard in a stable condition.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash has commenced.
