The clash featured two veterans of the code, Magpies captain-coach Brooke Roach and clever Raiders player Simon Chapple, who have more than 1200 games between them. But neither were able to secure bragging rights over the other with Saturday's game ending in a 22-all draw.
The Magpies held a slender 20-16 lead at halftime. The second half became a real arm wrestle with both teams showing plenty of character in defense.
Terrace front rower Kurt Langdon was strong up front in attack and defense. Brothers Luke and Dean Handsaker worked hard to achieve the edge with some classy attacking raids while busy backrower Daine Walker had a fine game.
This Saturday the Terrace men host the Hamilton Ducks at Lakeside Sporting Complex.
The Raymond Terrace women's tackle team found competition leaders Waratah-Mayfield too strong to top on Saturday.
The Magpies were gallant in their 36-14 defeat. They were in the mix early with an 8-8 scoreline at half time. The Terrace showed plenty of spark in attack with Tasmyn Fellows running in a 90m solo try in the second half.
Players' player with a standout performance was Janarra Piva while the best forward award went to hardworking Sasha Venables.
The Raymond Terrace Ravens league tag team ran into a red hot Stroud Raiders outfit who ran out victors 24-0.
The Ravens made several defensive lapses however remained competitive for most of the game.
Players' player award went to Lauren Brien. Maddy Marquet, Jaz Hostler and Kayla Campbell also had strong games.
FINGAL Bay Rugby League team were competitive against competition heavy weights Thornton-Beresfield on Saturday as they continue to find their way in the top grade, but were ultimately defeated 28-18.
The Bomboras looked on track to cause a boil over, leading 14-12 at half time. A lopsided 14-3 penalty count slowed their momentum but they played with plenty of enthusiasm. Poor execution at vital times proved costly.
Tough front rower Danny Read was a worthy players' player. Hooker Liam Dooley continues to punch above his weight with a non-stop effort while Jake Bennett and Billy Rae had strong games.
This Saturday the Bomboras line up against West while in the lead up game, the unbeaten ladies league tag team play the Ravens at 1.40pm. The Bomboras women had a bye on the weekend.
MALLABULA Rugby League Club were outgunned by a slick Dudley Magpies outfit on Saturday losing 60-14.
For the Panthers, it was all hands to the pump as a mounting injury toll saw them take the field down on troops. However, they stayed in the game up to halftime where they trailed 22-10.
Best in a beaten team were the Daniels brothers with half back Josh working hard for the full game. Front rower Owen Daniels was non-stop. Creative back rower Evander Waitoa tried to spark the attack against the powerful Dudley team.
The ladies league tag team fell to Shortland 18-6. Aimee Taylor was the players' player. Kristen McMahon won the coaches award. Penny Prior picked up the manager's trophy. This Saturday Mallabula play the Aberglasslyn Ants at home.
