The support network said its directors made the difficult decision to postpone the Iluka Reserve event, which is also known as Walk With Us, as NSW Government Health "orders currently in place to manage COVID-19 mean that the event cannot be conducted in an appropriate manner".
"The intention of the PSSPN directors is to continually monitor the situation and reschedule the event when the number of people permitted at an outdoor event is increased to a level that makes the event viable," the network stated.
"We encourage our many friends and supporters to consider making a personal visit to Iluka Reserve to remember your lost loved ones and friends."
The remembrance walk was first staged in 2010. The event grows in momentum each year, with more than 180 people attending in 2019. It typically coincides with World Suicide Prevention Day and R U OK? Day.
The event gives members of the community affected by suicide an opportunity to connect and support one another, and to remember lost loved ones.
The event typically begins in Solace Place, a dedicated remembrance space in Iluka Reserve, before participants are asked to walk to the nearby cairn (an informal rock memorial) on the Boat Harbour coast.
