Lifeguards are already manning One Mile Beach seven days a week, which they will continue to do, but from the final weekend in September lifeguards will be on duty five days a week at Fingal and Birubi, with volunteer surf lifesavers on deck on Saturdays and Sundays.
The Australian Lifeguard Service is contracted by Port Stephens Council to patrol One MIle Beach seven days and Fingal and Birubi five days a week.
The Port's lifeguard supervisor Phil Rock said his team was prepared for a busy season, which will wrap up in April 2021. Lifeguards and lifesavers patrol between 9am and 5pm.
More than 764,840 people were recorded visiting the Port's patrolled three beaches during the 2018-2019 patrol season.
