The painting has been installed on the wall outside Best and Less in Raymond Terrace to showcase the unique identity and history of the area. It is the first in what will be a series of exhibitions to show in the project for the community to enjoy.
"The project gives local artists a chance to display their work in an outdoor environment while encouraging the community to engage with the arts beyond the confines of a museum or gallery," Port Mayor Ryan Palmer said.
"This first exhibition is a collaboration between local artist Alysha Fewster and passionate local children, with the help of a few parents. It's all about celebrating our plant and animal neighbours in Raymond Terrace.
"The children involved in making this work hope that it will act as a reminder for us to care for the amazing creatures and plants around us, and to keep our eyes open to their everyday wonder."
The council will engage with a range of artists to display works throughout the year using art, photography and socio-history exhibitions as part of the program.
