In "absolutely perfect conditions" in Raymond Terrace on Sunday, the society hosted the A River Runs Beside It event, a live outdoor production where a small cast performed a series of short historical stories and dramas local to the area.
"The audience enjoyed the experience and learned more about the history of the town through people's stories," event organiser Kaye Newton said.
"It was gratifying to see the cast from 16 years old to 70 meld into a team. Talia Goodwin, our young director, relished the challenge to bring out the best in the cast."
Ms Newton said the project had a "long gestation period" since gaining a Port Stephens Council cultural projects fund grant last year to finally delivering it on October 11.
"Because of COVID, things were held back for months, but in the end the time from audition to delivery was just a few weeks," she said.
"The delivery was also different due to social distancing, but decided to proceed along with the restrictions."
