From a friendship forged through their involvement in touch football, the Bay pair and proud Indigenous women took the plunge a decade ago to start up a business that has grown and flourished to become one of the real success stories in Port Stephens.

Launched in 2010, Aged Care Angels & Disability Services has developed into a leading player in the Port Stephens aged and disability industry as an NDIS-approved provider supporting people in need.

From a band of two - Kerry, an aged care nurse, and Rose, a certified bookkeeper and BAS agent - the business now employs staff to support people in their home including personal care, domestic duties, transport and community access across Port Stephens and beyond.

"We now have 65 staff, approximately 150 clients, a new office in Donald Street, Nelson Bay, and a fleet of five vehicles plus a wheelchair-accessible van," said Mrs Hewitt.

"And our business footprint has expanded to include outlining areas such as Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Central Coast, Singleton, Tea Gardens and Karuah.

"We are also looking for care workers to come on board to support our clients/participants in these areas."

The Angels' latest acquisition is a five-bedroom Supported Independent Living (SIL) and respite home at 1 Helm Close, Salamander Bay, which had its opening launch on October 16.

The newly renovated, wheelchair-accessible home provides both individual support for people with a disability (supported individual living) and respite.

"We had quite a few interested parties come through the home on Friday and are confident that we will be able to support many clients/participants into the future."
