A NSW Police spokesperson said the Salamander Bay school was put into a lockdown for a "short period" as a "precaution" following a physical altercation between students.
Police attended the scene.
Tomaree High School alerted parents and carers of students to the lockdown via text message on Thursday morning.
"Tomaree High School was placed into lockdown as a precautionary measure to ensure we maintained a safe environment for students and staff," the message read.
"The situation is under control and wen now return to a normal day's teaching and learning."
On Thursday afternoon, Tomaree Public School took to its Facebook page to advise the public that only the high school went into lockdown.
The primary and high schools are located next to each other within Tomaree Education Centre.
"You may have heard via the media that Tomaree High was in lock down this morning. Please be assured Tomaree Primary was not locked down at any time, and the High School has returned to normal operation," the Facebook post stated.
